Endocarditis after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: a current assessment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) constitutes an established treatment in inoperable or high perioperative risk patients with severe aortic stenosis, demonstrating similar mortality rates (at 30 days and 1 year) with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Various complications have been reported during TAVI, weeks or months post procedure. The most frequent causes of transcatheter heart valve (THV) failure are paravalvular regurgitation, infective endocarditis (IE), thrombosis and late valve Migration. Post TAVI endocarditis diagnosis can be established according to the valve academic research consortium-2 criteria which include (1) Duke endocarditis criteria; or (2) evidence of abscess, paravalvular leak, pus, or vegetation confirmed by histological or bacteriological studies during a reoperation; or (3) abscess, pus, or vegetation confirmed by an autopsy. 2 Incidence

Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infective Endocarditis Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A Note of Caution
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an alternative treatment for severe aortic valve stenosis (AS) in patients with prohibitive risk for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) is a rare complication of this relatively novel procedure and current guidelines do not include specific recommendations for its treatment. We report a case of PVE due ...

Prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) or surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) is a potential life threatening complication. Better understanding of the incidence, predictors, clinical presentation, diagnostic measures, complications and management of PVE may help improve TAVI long-term outcome. We report a case of TAVI-PVE in an 80-year-old...

متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis five months following transcatheter aortic valve implantation and review of literature.
There are only a few cases of prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) reported in the literature. Though not very frequent, this is a serious concern because patients are high risk for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) by definition, and explanting the endocarditic prosthetic valve followed by SAVR increases risk even higher.

OBJECTIVES This study sought to report on the pathology of transcatheter aortic valves explanted at early and late time points after transcatheter aortic valve implantation. BACKGROUND Information on pathological findings following transcatheter aortic valve implantation is scarce, particularly late after transcatheter aortic valve implantation. METHODS This study included 20 patients (13 m...
